Character Creator Scratchpad - Online Help

Character Creator Scratchpad is a program which allows you to quickly and easily create image scenes. The program was designed to allow rapid manipulation of images. It does this in a variety of ways and you can even use text and sounds associated to images. The canvas size can be adjusted easily giving you as much space as you need for your image scenes.

Because it allows fast and easy manipulation of images, it can also be used as a tool to quickly create initial designs for projects of any kind including software applications and websites.

The entire canvas containing the images can be saved as an XML file or as an image. You can also drag multiple images and saved XML files back on the canvas for faster loading.

You can use Character Creator Scratchpad to:

Quickly create image scenes by using the default images, local images or images from the Web.

Create panoramic images with incredible ease.

Can be used as a Comic Creator.

Create silhouette, outline and line art images in some cases with just two clicks.

Rotate images with a press of a key and a mouse click. To rotate the last clicked image in the application, keep pressing SHIFT and click the left mouse button. The Left SHIFT key (along with the mouse click) is for rotating the image counter clockwise and the Right SHIFT key (along with the mouse click) is for rotating the image clockwise.

Resize an image with a press of a key and a mouse click. To resize the last clicked image in the application, keep pressing any of the CTRL keys, then click the left mouse button and drag it around to resize.

Crop an image or parts of the canvas. Just add the cropping points and then you can either get the image from that selected region along with (optionally) the contour (in a separated image) or fill the selected region with a transparent color.

Transparent image frames. After adding the cropping points fill the selected region with a transparent color. Then you can use that image frame to put it on top of another image so parts of the underlying image will be seen

Duplicate an image. To do this right click the image and select "Duplicate".

Drag images across the canvas.

Make an image behave as a background image so that you can add more images on top of it. You can also make a background image behave as a normal image if you want to.

Filter images. To do this, right click an image and select "Filter Images". Available filter types are: switch color channels, set specified values for color channels, replace color channels, jitter, water wave, sepia, blur, invert, oil painting, mirror, sharpen, grayscale.

Quickly generate an image made of several images. To do this, add your images to the canvas, then right click the canvas and select "Make Background Transparent". Then go to the Options tab and press the "Refresh Preview" button to see a preview of how your image will look like if you save it. You can continue to work on your image scene or you can save the image scene using the "Save Image To Disk" button in the Options tab or right click the canvas and select "Save Scratchpad Image". You can even add your image scene back to the canvas and to do this you need to right click the canvas and select "New Image" and then the "From Entire Canvas" menu option.

Attach a text to an image. You can specify the Font Family, Font Stretch, Font Style, Font Weight, Font Size, Foreground Color and Background Color of the text. To do this, right click the image and select "Text Option" and then the "Edit Text" menu options.

Get images from websites. To do this, right click the canvas and select Online Image Browser which will open the Online Image Browser window where you can enter web site addresses to get the images within. Notice the "Get Images Again" button which is very useful in case of sites like Google: after an initial search of images based on a word in Google, a scroll down is required to get more images, so after scrolling down and the images are retrieved in the browser, you can use the "Get Images Again" button to retrieve the new images from the browser. You can also retrieve images from local folders.

Record the movement, resizing and rotation of images and then let the images move automatically. To do this you can use the Automatic Movement Window which can be accessed right clicking an image and choosing the "Automatic Movement Option" -> "Automatic Movement Window" option. The application records the position (image movement), size (image resize) and angle (image rotation) of the selected image.

Create animated Gif files, you can do this using the Gif animation functionality in two ways: one way is to move the images yourself and after each movement you can record a gif frame and the other way is to use the Automatic Movement functionality to record the movement/resizing/rotation of images so they can play automatically during which time you use the Gif Animation Creator to record gif frames.

Split an images in rectangles, by specifying the number of columns, rows and the width and height of the resulting images. The resulting images are added to the main canvas.

Rotate images by specifying the rotation steps in degrees. You can add the resulting images to the main canvas or you can save them to a folder.

Quickly change the scale of the selected image. To do this press CTRL + [ to decrease the scale and CTRL + ] to increase the scale. To reset the scale to 1 press CTRL + \
